Essential Question:

How do sentence diagrams help represent and visualize the structure of a sentence?

Objective:

  • Students will diagram sentences with compound subjects and compound predicates

Materials:

  • Notebook/iPad
  • Paper/pen
  • Individual whiteboards/markers
  • Videos (homework)


Activities:

  • Review sentence diagramming.
    • basic structure
    • adjectives and adverbs
    • prepositional phrases.
  • Create 10 sentence total make sure to include sentences with a subject, verb, adjective, adverb, and prepositional phrase (or some combination of those parts of speech). Once you have created your 10 sentences, diagram them. Then, find a partner and switch your sentences. See if you can accurately diagram each other’s work, be sure to check one another's work.
  • Homework
